2021, it has to be better, right? Six things to look forward to in 2021
2020 by all accounts, was simply the worst. From dealing with a global pandemic to adjusting to working from home, 2020 was not the ideal year. So, in that regard, here are some things to look forward in 2021!
World Junior Hockey Championships
Although they technically started on Christmas Day, Canadians the World Junior Hockey Championships, otherwise known as the World U-20 Hockey Championship is one of the traditions during the holidays and New Year. This year's tournament is in a bubble in Edmonton without fans, but the tournament's return is something to get us through this cold, long winter, and a hopeful return to everyday life.
Big Box Movies coming to the small screen
With the uncertainty around the re-opening of theatres, Warner Brothers have done the unthinkable this time last year and are releasing their 2021 movie line-up on HBO Max and in theatres. This is not for a single film, but rather, the entire production companies’ line-up. This includes some big blockbusters, including:
Dune
Space Jam: A New Legacy
The Suicide Squad
The Matrix 4
Mortal Combat
The potential return of live music
Although many tours are still figuring out if they will go forward, Eurovision's production team has already announced that the competition will go ahead in May 2021. If you have not seen a Eurovision show… do yourself a favour and jump on YouTube to see some clips. It is nothing short of spectacular. Other big-name acts have already announced preliminary tour dates for 2021 including Justin Bieber, Queen Ft Adam Lambert, Chris Stapleton and Shawn Colvin.
Tokyo 2020 2021
After a brief one-year hiatus, the Olympic Games will return from July 23- August 8 in Tokyo. We are hopeful all of our favourite summer athletes can compete in these delayed games. Plus, four new sports will make their premiere at the Olympic Games including karate, skateboarding, sport climbing and surfing. As well, softball and baseball will make a return after three years out of the Olympic cycle.
Broadway is coming back, eventually
Although the official return is still on ice, Broadway is looking to return in the Summer of 2021. It is expected that Hamilton will lead the return to the big stage on July 4 and we should see the world premiere of MJ the Musical later in the Summer. For those who love the classics, we should also see revivals of Change, Caroline and The Music Man in 2021.
Walt Disney World turns 50
To mark the 50th birthday of the infamous park, the Happiest Place on Earth will be getting a few new rides to entertain guests of all ages. The park is scheduled to open a Ratatouille Ride as well as the TRON coaster in 2021. Plus, you will be able to stay in Galaxy's Edge at the brand-new Star Wars Hotel. Not bad for the home of the mouse.
What are you looking forward to in 2021? We can't wait to ring in the new year and leave 2020 in the rear-view mirror!
